2019 Oscar Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 91st Academy Awards were announced earlier this morning. Keep reading for a full list of nominees. I won’t be making my predictions just yet. There are still a number of awards to be handed out between now and the Oscars. Many of these are historically good indicators of who will win the Oscar. Look for my predictions in the week or so leading up to the Oscars. But in the meantime, if you’re curious as to who would have nominated for the “Big 6” (Best Picture, Best Director, Lead Actor/Actress, Supporting Actor/Actress) you can check out my 2018 Year in Review post.

Final notes/thoughts

Roma and The Favourite led the way 10 nominations each; Vice and A Star is Born followed with 8; Black Panther ended up with 7 nominations. Bradley Cooper was left off the Best Director nominations, while Pawel Pawlikowski was surprisingly nominated for his work on Cold War. There were four “sure thing” nominations for Best Actor, and Willem Dafoe nabbed the fifth. For Supporting Actress, Marina de Tavira (Roma) was a surprise I doubt many saw coming. Best Picture had no real twists in the nominations, though the category did only end up with 8 nominees.

The Academy Awards ceremony airs on Sunday, February 24th on ABC.
