The Sweet 16 saw the highest number of votes cast for an individual round in the 2020 College Basketball Tournament of Names thus far. If you’re a fan of the March Madness Cinderella stories, you probably aren’t going to be a fan of the voting results. But, on the other hand, we have a lot of true powerhouses left.
#1 Leroy Butts IV steamrolled #13 Trip Day in the Fanny Wadling Region, building upon his already legendary legacy. Another #1 seed, Buck Eagleburger, equally squashed #5 Kenneth Castleberry Jr. in the Treasure Hunt Region.
In a few of the closer votes, Mo Beavers came out on top in his whack-a-mole-esque matchup with Logan Swackhammer, the quest to the Final Four ended for Max Nuckles as he lost to London England, and Ebube Ebube squeaked out an unexpectedly close win against Chewy Zevenbergen.
Anticipated Elite Eight matchups:
#1 Leroy Butts IV vs. #3 Mo Beavers, Fanny Wadling Region – The classic clash between a legend and a promising young talent. Experience vs. youth. Old money vs. new money. I cannot lie, I like Butts IV.
#1 Buck Eagleburger vs. #2 Goose Persin, Treasure Hunt Region – This was one of the potentially amazing matchups I previewed in the original 2020 College Basketball Tournament of Names post at the beginning of the month, and I’m so glad it’s here. Birds, deer, people, food… this one has it all. With a different seeding committee, this easily could have happened in the Final Four or championship rounds.
