There are sad reminders of the sporting events we are missing with every day that goes by. MLB Opening Day was supposed to be Thursday. This weekend was supposed to be the Elite Eight for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. With all the uncertainty in the world about sports and much, much more, you can always count on the Tournament of Names. It’s Final Four time.
The Elite Eight produced the closest round of votes in the history of this tournament. As of the writing of this sentence, three of the matchups were still undecided. Shabooty Phillips advanced comfortably to earn his spot in the Final Four. Ebube Ebube avenged his Elite Eight loss from 2018 by defeating the #1 seed in the Forever Toppin Region, London England. #1 Buck Eagleburger advanced on a tiebreaker over #2 Goose Persin in the Treasure Hunt Region.
In the most shocking news of the entire college basketball season, #1 overall seed Leroy Butts IV was upset by a newcomer in the Fanny Wadling Region, #3 Mo Beavers. Butts IV appeared to have an insurmountable lead early in the match, but a flood of votes for Beavers resulted in a buzzer-beater-esque moment. However, this loss does not take away from Leroy’s legacy. In two appearances, has one championship, two Elite Eight berths, is the lowest seed to ever make the Final Four (#4, 2018), and holds the longest all-time winning streak of 10 matches.
