The world has never needed a college basketball tournament more than right now. While all the others are cancelled, the Tournament of Names powers through with the Sweet 16.
Similar to most years of the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament, the cream has risen to the top in the Sweet 16, with only one Cinderella left: #13 seed Trip Day of the Fanny Wadling Region. He has his work cut out for him with Tournament of Names legend Leroy Butts IV up next. I don’t see Trip living to play another day, but I’ve been shocked with voting in the past.
In other regions, we saw the #5 seeds take down the #4s, with A.J. Cheeseman, Kenneth Castleberry Jr., and Max Nuckles all advancing to face #1 seeds. I give the best chance to A.J. Cheeseman to take down Shabooty Phillips in the Cali Weed Region. This still seems incredibly unlikely, given the public’s love for names involving butt puns.
In other notable results from the second round, Ebube Ebube defeated Pauly Paulicap in the battle of Manhattan, Chewy Zevenbergen upset Ferron Flavors Jr. in this year’s eating contest, and Mo Beavers disrupted the raging current of Boo Buie to prevent a Sweet 16 appearance.
Anticipated third round matchups:
#2 Logan Swackhammer vs. #3 Mo Beavers, Fanny Wadling Region – These two have been on a collision course since the bracket was published. Dominant efforts for each in the first two rounds have made this a must-vote. There’s a whack-a-mole pun in here somewhere.
#2 Cross Hackathorne vs. #3 Justus Rainwater, Cali Weed Region – Unlike Swackhammer vs. Beavers, neither of these high seeds has a convincing victory to his name this tournament, so we will see who is the bigger pretender.
#1 London England vs. #5 Max Nuckles, Forever Toppin Region – This is a true heavyweight fight, and Max Nuckles has a much more fitting name if we’re about to witness a boxing match.
