‘Animaniacs’ Reboot In The Works At Hulu

In the best news so far of 2018, my beloved Animaniacs will be making a (hopefully) triumphant return to the small screen. As reported in a Hulu press release a new deal was announced between Hulu, Amblin Television, and Warner Bros. Animation to bring back brothers Yakko and Wakko along with their sister Dot. The original Animaniacs premiered on September 13, 1993 with its final episode airing November 14, 1998. Along with the Warner Siblings, other classic characters the show introduced include Pinky and the Brain, Slappy and Skippy Squirrel, the Goodfeathers, Rita and Runt, Button and Mindy. Of those, only Pinky and the Brain have been confirmed to return. No word yet on what other characters, old or new, will also be included.

In addition to the new show, the deal also gives Hulu the exclusive streaming rights to the entire existing Animaniacs episodes, along with Pinky and the BrainPinky, Elmyra, and the Brian; and Tiny Toon Adventures.

The show has gained a bit of notoriety over the amount of adult jokes and innuendo, often noted by Yakko turning to the camera and saying “Good night everybody!” Some of them were very subtle, while others were incredibly obvious. I hope they continue to include that theme; it would be a great acknowledgement to now-adult fans excited to revisit a childhood favorite. This video is a compilation of some of the best adult jokes snuck (or blatantly slapped) into the series. It’s 10 minutes long but worth every minute.

New episodes of the reboot are slated to begin in 2020 while the older episodes are now available to stream on Hulu.
