Australian Survivor Set To Return In 2021

We’re back, baby! Or, on the way back, at least. While we still wait for more updates for the US and South African editions of the show, Australia’s Network 10 confirmed at their upfronts that Australian Survivor will be coming back in 2021.

Mr. Biceps himself, Jonathan LaPaglia, who will return as host, said, “We saw the best of the best compete in this year’s All Stars season. In 2021, it’s time for some new blood to step into the ring and take the series’ mantra – Outwit, Outplay and Outlast – to a new level. It’s going to be one hell of a ride.”

No further details were provided as to when or where the next season would film. Like the US show, Survivor AU has taken to filming their seasons in Fiji. But international travel is still a mixed bag at the moment – and a potentially risky one, at that.

Similar to US and South Africa, there has been speculation that Australia might film their next season domestically. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as finding a beautiful location to film the season. There’s so much more that goes into choosing a filming location than that. But at least on that front, one would think Australia would have no shortage of TV-friendly options.

Though there has been no official statement about a domestically-filmed season, it wouldn’t be unprecedented in the world of Australian reality TV. Also revealed at the upfronts, the next season of The Amazing Race Australia will be filmed in-country. Host Beau Ryan relayed his excitement over this fact, saying, “I was over the moon when I found out The Amazing Race Australiawould be filmed in our own backyard. We have the most stunning beaches, coastlines and natural landscapes on the planet.”

One would have to think Survivor production has some sort of idea where the next season will film. No doubt they would have held back this announcement if they didn’t plans in place. We’ll just have to wait and see what comes next.

I expect to cover this upcoming season like I would for any US season. If you’re unfamiliar with the Australian version, the Aussies do it big. Bigger casts, bigger seasons. The previous five seasons have all had 24 contestants, with the season lasting 50 days (the first two seasons were 55, before decreasing for season 3). Network 10 airs multiple episodes each week, so there’s a lot to keep up with.

The plan will be to recap each individual episode as normal, with maybe a quick weekly recap as well. And if you’re wondering how to watch the show, both this upcoming season and seasons past, well I’ve got you covered there. But you’ll have to DM me on Twitter to get the details.
