I’ve been over-the-top excited for the solo Black Panther movie ever since we first saw him in Civil War. He had a quiet yet commanding presence and was a complete bad ass. I’ve been waiting for the premier to happen to get these initial reactions and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw what came back. Just take a look at some of the tweets from those who were at the premiere.
#BlackPanther: I never wanted this movie to end, and as soon as it did I wanted to go back. Solid action, smart story, tons of personality. Shuri is my new fave, Nakia is everything, Killmonger is incredible, T'Challa deserves to rule the MCU. Coogler has done it again. 💜🖤💙 pic.twitter.com/t9gG3DLuCL

BLACK PANTHER is incredible, kinetic, purposeful. A superhero movie about why representation & identity matters, and how tragic it is when those things are denied to people. The 1st MCU movie about something real; Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger had me weeping and he’s the VILLAIN

Ryan Coogler knocked it out of the park, some great sequences presented in a “single take/shot.” If this movie isn’t nominated for costume, art and production design awards next year, I would be seriously shocked. #blackpanther

That last one gets me particularly excited. Game of Thrones-style intrigue? Yes please! Lots of memorable characters? Depth of quality characters has long been something Marvel has struggled with. Top 5 all-time Marvel movie? That makes for one damn good movie, whether that’s exclusively MCU or MCU plus all other Marvel movies not in the MCU (Deadpool, Logan, etc.). I didn’t think it was possible but I’m way more hyped for this movie now than I thought I could be.
Black Panther opens everywhere February 16.
