I wrote last week about the initial reactions to Black Panther after its premiere and how positive those were. Well now we have the official reviews, and they’re just as glowing. They’re real, and they’re spectacular.
Take a look at some of these excerpts and click through to the full reviews to see for yourself.
“One of the greatest tricks Black Panther pulls off is somehow incorporating so many good roles beyond the title character. Jordan’s Killmonger actually has a full arc and has some reason behind what he’s doing – which gives us one of the best Marvel villains to date.” Mike Ryan, Uproxx
“It’s finally here – and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Black Panther is an epic that doesn’t walk, talk or kick ass like any other Marvel movie – an exhilarating triumph on every level from writing, directing, acting, production design, costumes, music, special effects to you name it. For children (and adults) of color who have longed forever to see a superhero who looks like them, Marvel’s first black-superhero film is an answered prayer, a landmark adventure and a new film classic.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
“While the themes are deep, Black Panther is at the same time a visual joy to behold, with confident quirkiness (those aforementioned war rhinos), insane action sequences and special effects, and the glorious reveal of Wakanda, whose culture is steeped in African influences but which also offers a jaw-dropping look at what a city of the future could be.” Brian Truitt, USA Today
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Just do a quick Google search for “Black Panther reviews” and you’ll see how enthralled the critics are with the newest Marvel entry. One of the aspects that I’m most looking forward to is the cast of characters besides T’Challa himself. Something Marvel has long struggled with is providing strong characters to support the lead. From the sounds of it, director Ryan Coogler just may have cracked that code. As excited as I already was for this movie, that’s now been amped up by about 1000 with this first wave of reviews. February 16 cannot come soon enough.
