College Student Failed Assignment Because Her Professor Didn’t Know Australia Was A Country

In today’s edition of Idiots Being Idiots, a college student failed an assignment because her COLLEGE PROFESSOR DIDN’T KNOW AUSTRALIA WAS A COUNTRY! I mean, what? How is that even possible? A Buzzfeed article details the bizarre case of Ashley Arnold and possible the dumbest college professors ever.

Ashley’s assignment was to compare a social norm in the US and another country. She chose Australia. However, when she received her grade, she was shocked to see she had failed, with her professor commenting, “Australia is a continent, not a country.” Well, as any 5th grade student (younger even?) can tell you, Australia is in fact both a continent and a country. Ashley and her professor exchanged a few emails, with Ashley making great points, such as the fact that the university’s own library contained information stating Australia is a country, the “About Australia” section on the Australian Government’s website definitively calling itself a continent and a country. After some review, the professor changed the grade to a B+, but just couldn’t resist adding in one last, moronic comment: “Please make sure the date, the facts, and the information you provide in your report is about Australia the country and not Australia the continent.” Idiots gonna idiot, I guess.
