I loved the first Ant-Man movie. It was a great origin story for one of the founding members of the Avengers (in the comics at least). Up until that point, it was the funniest of the MCU movies; Thor: Ragnarok took over that title last fall. And now we’re getting our first look at the Wasp, also a comic-book era original member of the Avengers team. Based on what we see in the trailer, we can expect another lighter, funnier Marvel entry, and it looks like it’s all going to culminate with another winner for Marvel. One part I’m particularly excited for is that we’re likely going to get much more shrinkage and growth special effects for our enjoyment. The enlarged PEZ dispenser just might have been my favorite part of the trailer. I think the movie would be well-served to add a few more funny moments like that, where something ridiculous gets shrunk or enlarged, similar the Thomas the Tank Engine in the first movie.
Not much is known about the plot yet. We do know that Ant-Man gets arrested after the events of Civil War, resulting in Scott, Hank, and Hope having to go on the run. The movie’s IMDB page also includes Scott and Hope going on an “urgent new mission…to uncover secrets of their past.” Pretty vague so far. But with months to go before its release, there’s still plenty of time for more info to come to light. One reveal fans are surely still eagerly awaiting is that of Janet van Dyne, Hank’s wife who disappeared after shrinking to enter the Quantum Realm years ago. Let’s hope for a peak in trailer #2.
Ant-Man and the Wasp opens everywhere on July 6.
