Full List of Golden Globe Nominees

The nominees were announced today for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards. Below is a complete list of all nominees. I’ll include some thoughts for most of the movie categories. But for TV I have to be honest, I have not kept up with TV this year as much as I have movies. So I’ll just say this: Any category where “The Americans” or “The Good Place” has a nomination, they should win all those categories.

Best Motion Picture – Drama

“A Star Is Born”

I still have “First Man” as the best movie of the year up this point, but I can’t argue with 4/5 here. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the real surprise.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Glenn Close (“The Wife”)
Lady Gaga (“A Star Is Born”)
Nicole Kidman (“Destroyer”)
Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”)
Rosamund Pike (“A Private War”)

“Destroyer” has yet to come out, and from the other movies here, I’ve so far only seen “A Star is Born.” But regardless, this is Lady Gaga’s.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born”)
Willem Dafoe (“At Eternity’s Gate”)
Lucas Hedges (“Boy Erased”)
Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”)
John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman”)

Lucas Hedges surprises here. Don’t get me wrong, he was great in “Boy Erased.” But to get in over the likes of Ryan Gosling (“First Man”), Ethan Hawke (“First Reformed”) and Hugh Jackman (“The Front Runner”) among others wasn’t something I saw coming. I think “A Star is Born” sweeps and Cooper wins.

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

“The Favourite”
“Green Book”
“Mary Poppins Returns”
“Vice”

It’s going to be “Vice” or “The Favourite,” two movies I cannot wait to see. But “Green Book” is also fantastic. It would be a deserving winner.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Emily Blunt (“Mary Poppins Returns”)
Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”)
Elsie Fisher (“Eighth Grade”)
Charlize Theron (“Tully”)
Constance Wu (“Crazy Rich Asians”)

I’ll be pulling so hard for Elsie Fisher, but I don’t see that happening. Gut feeling is Olivia Colman.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Christian Bale (“Vice”)
Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Mary Poppins Returns”)
Viggo Mortensen (“Green Book”)
Robert Redford (“The Old Man & the Gun”)
John C. Reilly (“Stan & Ollie”)

This award is Christian Bale’s. But I would take no issue with Mortensen winning.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture
Amy Adams (“Vice”)
Claire Foy (“First Man”)
Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk”)
Emma Stone (“The Favourite”)
Rachel Weisz (“The Favourite”)

This category is absolutely loaded. I can’t really make a prediction until I’ve seen “Vice” and “The Favourite.” But I think Amy Adams will win for “Sharp Objects” so I would bet (tentatively) on Stone or Weisz.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Richard E. Grant (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”)

Another strong category, though it’s shocking Sam Elliott wasn’t nominated for “A Star is Born.” Same goes for Daniel Kaluuya in “Widows.” My personal preference also got left out; Russell Hornsby in “The Hate U Give.” But I’m feeling a Rockwell win, though Driver and Ali would both be deserving as well.

You really can’t go wrong here. I’d still give it to Damien Chazelle for “First Man” but since he’s not nominated, I’ll roll with Cooper, but with minimal confidence. This category seems wide open.

I love “Shallow” but I don’t think it’s the best song in the movie. It will probably win but “All the Stars” would get my vote.
