Sorry for the delay in the tournament bracket. Life got very busy with work starting back up again, but the tournament must go on! Please check out the results in the updated bracket and vote for your picks in the next round below! There were some good upsets, blowouts, and disappointments.
Blow Outs:
The biggest blow out award this week goes to Game of Thrones who dominated Stranger Things with 83.3% of the vote. I expected this to be maybe a little closer, but am thrilled that GOT was able to own the overrated Stranger Things.
Breaking Bad also dominated Seinfeld with 82.8% of the vote. I know I have hated on Breaking Bad, but I am pleased by these results. I really don’t like Seinfeld, I don’t know why, it’s just not for me.
Nail Biters and Blowouts:
The closest match in this round was Friends defeating Curb Your Enthusiasm with only getting 51.7% of the vote. After Curb made its good run defeating Community and then Rick and Morty, I am glad a comedy I like can avenge them a little.
The other very close match was South Park taking down The Sopranos with 55.2% of the votes. South Park is hilarious at its best and meh at its worst. I am a fan but am surprised how far South Park has gone.
The final “upset” was The Office handily beating The Wire with 72.4% of the votes. I know people really like The Wire and it is very critically acclaimed, but it just could not compete with The Office and their huge fanbase.
Elite 8 Matchups
Breaking Bad(1) vs. South Park(6): Though I very much do not want Breaking Bad to win this tournament, I still want it to beat South Park. South Park has had a good run beating Sherlock and Seinfeld, but I think it’s time in the tournament is coming to an end.
Game of Thrones(1) vs. The Office: This is the biggest matchup in this round. Both shows are beloved and both didn’t have the best final seasons. But the Game of Thrones ending was unforgivable and fans are still furious. Will that be enough to give The Office the win? I think Game of Thrones will go through but it could be close.
Chernobyl(1) vs. Friends(3): I like Friends as much as the next person. It is a great sitcom and consistently funny throughout its long run. But Chernobyl is fantastic. It feels like cheating that it is a mini series, but it is still just so good. I am guessing Chernobyl moves on.
Band of Brothers(1) vs. House(6). How did House make it this far? It is a solid show, but I don’t know if it belongs in the elite 8. Since my last post I have almost finished watching Band of Brothers and I have to admit I am a little disappointed in it. There are a couple very good episodes, but it is not on the same level as it’s brother HBO mini series, Chernobyl. As I was watching Band of Brothers and watching the votes come in, I got sadder and sadder that it was beating Lost so easily. All of that being said, I think Band of Brothers will move on to the final four with the other three one seeds.
Please get out and vote for your picks in the Elite 8. I hope to have the results posted sometime later next week. I am excited to see how the tournament finishes up!
