Last night, LeBron James (and the Cleveland Cavaliers) beat the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to advance to his 8th consecutive NBA Finals. To preface this post, I’ll just say watching LeBron is a sports viewing experience unlike any other. I almost feel bad that he’s so much better than everyone else on the court at all times. If you don’t consider him one of the best two players of all-time in a class with Michael Jordan, you probably aren’t looking at his body of work objectively.
Outside of LeBron, the Cavs suck. If you remove him from the team, it feels like a 20-win group of players, rather than the 50-win team they are. Boston has a deep core of young, talented guys that will be contenders for years to come, but LeBron is still too great to be taken down by any other team in the Eastern Conference. Obviously, some people love him and some hate him as a result of his greatness. This is why he is constantly the subject of some of the most hilarious tweets out there. Here are some of my favorites from tonight.
8 Years Goat!! @KingJames We Back To The Ship!!

I understand what Tray is trying to accomplish here: “8 Years” meaning 8 straight championship appearances. “Goat” (should be G.O.A.T.) meaning “Greatest of All-Time.” And then finishing up with “We Back To The Ship,” meaning his team is going to the NBA Finals again. Unfortunately, this is a confusing tweet. Taken out of context, I’m not sure many people would have a clue what this meant. I think about showing this to someone like my grandma and seeing the look of utter bewilderment on her face. Also, an underrated aspect of this tweet is that all words are unnecessarily capitalized.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Of course he’s the only one who can do this, which is why he’s the only guy currently in the NBA to make eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
Lebron James gets his 8th consecutive trip to the finals. At what point do you start to wonder if he’s better than Jordan?

Like two years ago?

This tweet prompts a more philosophical discussion. If LeBron isn’t composed of the same DNA/material/hardware of all other humans, why is Alvin expecting him to die in the first place?
@KingJames you will never be Jordan. Knighting yourself before your rookie year makes you a bitch. Go on to the finals and lose again. @NBA refs helped you beat the @Pacers. Lose in 5 and go somewhere else because you only care about money.

Ahhh, the haters. Here is a guy that has clearly been burned by LeBron in the past and has open wounds. My guess is that he is a hardcore Pacers fan who has suffered years of losses to LeBron, both on the Heat and the Cavs. Even more sadly, he thinks that LeBron’s 3-5 record in the Finals is a reason why he sucks. Sure, he loses more often than he wins, but in maybe half of those finals appearances, he carried a group of players that had no business even making the playoffs without him. His last two Finals losses have come to the Warriors, who potentially have FOUR HALL OF FAMERS on their roster. If it’s come to the point where you are judging LeBron for losing to almost a full team of Hall of Famers, isn’t that maybe a sign that your standards for him are pretty high?
Reminder: LeBron James had to go to 7 games against a team without their 2 best players

This has to be the most ignorant tweet of the night. Even without Boston’s best two players, they still have at least four guys better than any of LeBron’s teammates – Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier III. Thorsteinn here is obviously a Boston fan, considering his profile picture is Julian Edelman, and he’s apparently a little insecure that his Celtics got taken down single-handedly by one guy. Fortunately, all the Celtics fans out there won’t have to wait long for another shot at the NBA Championship, as they are returning pretty much their entire roster for 2018-2019 and should be able to walk their way to the Eastern Conference Finals again.
