I grew up on Mario Kart 64. I still play it to this day. Still bust out Double Dash too. For the record, as far as I’m concerned there are only three real Mario Kart games. You have to include the OG, Super Mario Kart for the SNES. Considering the Wii editions were less than stellar, I’m going to have unreasonably high hopes for this one. This could be the next great time-wasting app that has the potential to actually be fun.
The game, called Mario Kart Tour, is due to be released in March 2019. No other details were made available in Nintendo’s announcement. So that leaves plenty for us to speculate on and think about until more info is provided. Which characters will be available? Will there be all new courses, older courses, or a combination? Will you be able to play online or otherwise link and play against friends? That last part is probably the most important. Mario Kart is plenty fun playing on your own, but it’s still better competing against your friends. There’s nothing better than firing off a blue shell near the end of the race and destroying your best friend’s chance at victory while at the same risking the fabric of the very friendship. Because what good is a video game if your friendships aren’t at stake?
