Song: Dinosaur Laser Fight
Artist: Ninja Sex Party
Genre: Comedy
Every once in a while I will also review a song under the “ridiculous” category. Songs under this category will be comedy songs, rap songs, and other songs with absurd lyrics. Many songs under this category will have highly ridiculous and inappropriate lyrics, so let’s start off with something relatively tame, but amazing at the same time. Ninja Sex Party, is a lesser known comedy band, but one that is just as good as others such as The Lonely Island.
Verses: 8/10
While the music is generally not very important in comedy songs, this song actually delivers the whole time. NSP has a kind of 80s sounds with Ninja Brian’s awesome keyboard driving the rhythm and verses along.
Chorus: 9/10
Again, good music. But mainly it is very catchy even though it only happens twice.
Bridge: 9/10
The music gets a little quieter and illuminates the best line in my opinion of the whole song: “It’s fucking science, just ask Albert Einstein, he invented space.”
Music: 8/10
All in all the music is quite good. Nothing seriously stands out as being amazing, but it can be appreciated when it doesn’t have to be in such a song. NSP has released a couple of cover albums and you can tell that they really know what they are doing musically, and are more than just a comedy band.
Lyrics: 10/10
This is where NSF really shines. For me, the lyrics make this band very enjoyable. The whole songs tells a ridiculous story about a dinosaur laser fight, as the title suggests, but it just keeps getting more absurd as it goes on. A song like this might be too much to handle for some people, but for those who can appreciate immature comedy like this, you would really like this band.
Miscellaneous: 9/10
There are a few other things worth mentioning that make this a better song that don’t really fall into any category. The first is just the general story that they tell with the song. Whether it be in a very serious “real” song, or something just meant to be funny, I think telling a story through a song makes it much more enjoyable as a whole. The other thing worth mentioning is the general catchiness of the song. It is simple and short, but I guarantee if you listen to this a few times, you won’t be able to get it out of your head, which could be a good or bad thing.
Overall: 9/10
As a song compared to other “real” songs does this deserve a 9/10? No, probably not. But within its category I think it does deserve it. It is a tier 1 comedy song that is catchy has great lyrics, and tells a great scientific story. If you like this please check out other great material from NSP, who has a lot more gems like this one.
