Song: Victorious
Artist: Panic! At The Disco
Genre: Alternative
We are on our third week of my song reviews and I have decided that each week I am going to get a little heavier and a little closer to my style. This song finally features some electric guitars. You could classify this as a pump up song, but there are still plenty of poppy elements to draw a variety of music fans to it.
Verses: 9/10
The singing is quite catchy and poppy in all of the verses. There is a nice guitar riff that keeps it flowing, which we haven’t seen yet in either song I have talked about. Besides that, the biggest thing is that there is just a lot going on to notice and keep you interested. Whether it be the background person singing in the background, or some interesting synth instruments. Then the build up to the chorus is very good, and gets you excited for the big guitars to come in.
Chorus: 8/10
The guitars come in big, like old Panic songs in the short chanting chorus. It is short, sweet, and full of energy. This is the part that will get you pumped up. I wish it were longer, or there were something more, but it is good. You could maybe count the build up as part of the chorus, but that is debatable.
Bridge: 7/10
The bridge isn’t bad, it only disappoints me a little because the build up of the second verse makes me think we are getting another solid high energy chorus, and instead we get the smaller weird chanting part. But then it’s okay because we get a really good build up part before the last chorus, with some nice electronic sounding guitar.
Music: 8/10
Overall the music is quite solid. Nothing is super melodic or intricate, but it does its job for the kind of feel the song has. The hard driving guitars get you excited, the drumming is good, giving the song a good fast paced rhythm, and there is plenty of synth and brass instruments to give the song much more depth than your basic pop song.
Lyrics: 7/10
Overall the lyrics are entertaining. Again, nothing super deep or profound here. If anything the lyrics are comical, and witty, and go well with the feel of the song.
Intro/Outro: 8/10
This is a new category that I haven’t done yet. Each song I will include a miscellaneous category or two, depending on what the song has to offer. For all “real” songs, this will likely be a category. For poppier stuff, I will likely include something else. Anyways, the intro of the song is pretty awesome. It starts with that weird chanting, which works really well at the beginning, and less in the very middle of the song. The chanting at the beginning is followed up with he big guitar part riff that we hear in the chorus, and it really gets us excited in interested in the song right away. Then they do it again in the outro which is still good, as a lot is going on to finish the song, it just doesn’t have the same effect and emphasis as the beginning.
Overall: 8/10
While I definitely prefer the old style of Panic! at the Disco, I still definitely respect their music. They have managed to keep their rock roots while adding some more synths and poppy elements to appease fans changing tastes. This is just a fun song, that I think many people would enjoy. Finally, I highly recommend watching the music video as it is quite comical and goes along well to the lyrics and style of the song.
If that were a category this song would obviously be an 11/10
Can I suggest a category be the ability to fire up a drinking night.
