One more month until new Survivor! As soon M-Net announced that Survivor South Africacompleted secret filming for their upcoming 8th season, the countdown to June 3 began. And that anticipation heated up today, with the release of the cast for the upcoming Immunity Island season – complete with a banger of a theme song too.
There’s no bigger challenge than #SurvivorSA, and here are the castaways toughing it out this season! Immunity Island premieres on Thursday 3 June at 19:30.

There’s not a ton of information here, but anything covering new Survivor news is worth talking about. That being said, there are a few points to note off the bat.
This season features a young cast, with the oldest player just 40 years old, and 8/20 under 30. Even with the previous two seasons skewing younger as well, it makes more sense for this season due to it filming during the pandemic. Going younger was probably the safe bet. How this affects the show of course remains to be seen. But production has knocked casting out of the park in the sixth and seventh seasons. I see no reason why this season will be any different.
This season is the first for Survivor South Africa filmed locally, taking place in the Wild Coast region of the Eastern Cape. But by the looks of it from that brief preview, the scope and scale seem to be as big and as epic as ever. Not that there was really ever any worry about this, but it is nice to see some confirmation of the fact.
There’s still no official word on what the namesake Immunity Island will be. Season six, Philippines, was the first rebooted season and was a pretty straightforward season in terms of theme and twists. Season seven, Island of Secrets, featured a Ghost Island-like island (not old relics, but it’s the closest approximation in terms of function) which actually worked out quite well. At this point I kind of hope they leave us in suspense and don’t reveal how the Immunity Island will work until the show begins.
