Westworld season two premiered last night. Netflix announces its plans for a Fast and Furious animated series today. Could this week be off to any better of a start? From EW:
The animated series will focus on a new character, teenager Tony Toretto, who follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom (played by Vin Diesel in the live action films). Tony and his friends are recruited by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league they believe serves as a front for a sinister crime organization. Tim Hedrick (DreamWorks’ Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) will serve as executive producers and showrunners, but the show will also maintain its ties to the live-action franchise with Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz, and Chris Morgan serving as producers.
Count me in for this 110%. I’m not going to sit here and argue that the Fast and Furious movies are some fantastic examples of cinematic achievement. But they are some of the most entertaining movies out there. The stunts, the crazy plots, The Rock. It’s all there. And besides, the movies basically function as live-action cartoons as it is, so why not make the leap to a full-on cartoon series? Just take what the movies are already doing, amp it up a ton, and you’ve got a hit show. Even if the trailers end up looking terrible and it gets the worst reviews imaginable, I can already all but guarantee this will be a weekend binge for me once it is released.
