WWE Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins
While it seems a lot of people aren’t super invested in this match, I’m curious where WWE goes from here. Lesnar has held this title on and off for a couple of years and it sucks to have a champion that doesn’t regularly appear on the show. It feels like about half of his matches during that time period have happened against Roman Reigns, so this is kind of new.
Along with the Women’s Championship and WWE Championship matches, this is a huge match where the fan favorite is expected to win the title while appearing to be an underdog. I don’t see all three of them finishing that way, and this is my frontrunner for the champion to retain. I bet Vince probably goes back to Brock/Roman yet again before we get a Universal Title change.
Prediction: Brock Lesnar
WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
This story has gotten me through a very lackluster WrestleMania build over the past few months and it’s the best thing going in WWE right now. Due to a real life injury to Mustafa Ali, Kofi was given an opportunity one night on Smackdown Live! in a gauntlet match. He took full advantage of that opportunity by lasting an hour, defeating main event level wrestlers, and earning a title shot at Elimination Chamber.
What nobody saw coming was how crazy the crowd went for Kofi at both Smackdown Live! and Elimination Chamber. As one of the final two competitors in the chamber, the fans felt he had earned a one-on-one title match in the future, but bad guy Vince had other ideas. He put several roadblocks in Kofi’s way. There were racial implications. There was unfair treatment of a loyal employee in general.
This is the perfect mix of writing and real life. As fans, we are not only behind the character of Kofi Kingston as he is treated like crap, but we also want to see the man behind the character rewarded for 11 years of hard work in WWE. Please don’t mess this up.
Prediction: Kofi Kingston
WWE Smackdown Live! and RAW Women’s Championships
Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Becky Lynch
In our final edition of fan favorite vs. corporate chosen one, Becky Lynch will likely be crowned both the RAW and Smackdown Live! Women’s Champion when this is all said and done. From comments and articles I’ve read, the consensus seems to be that everyone would prefer just Becky and Ronda for the RAW Championship. That’s where this scorching hot take comes in…
While I respect Becky, I haven’t really gotten the whole “The Man” gimmick. She hasn’t won as many titles as Charlotte, she wasn’t undefeated like Asuka, but calls herself “The Man?” The point where I became interested was actually when Vince announced he was replacing Becky with Charlotte due to injury. When Becky was ready to return, I’m glad he left Charlotte in the match. With Charlotte winning the Smackdown Live! Women’s Championship a couple weeks ago, this match became a winner-take-all-titles match and I’m completely in favor.
What Becky has done well is antagonize Ronda Rousey, both on TV and on social media, to the point where I’m legitimately concerned Ronda will hurt her. Like for real. Meanwhile, Charlotte is just kind of hanging out as the entitled brat who doesn’t deserve this opportunity, and doing it well. Most of this feud has been focused on Becky and Ronda, which is why I’m pulling for a surprise Charlotte win and a full blown fan mutiny.
Prediction: Becky Lynch
